The CCS Emergency Response Division was called to a release of mineral oil from an electrical transformer to perform clean-up including contaminated soil removal, decontamination, and restoration of a site in Southwest Washington. CCS Response personnel assessed the site and contacted the local utility companies for locates on underground utilities to ensure a safe excavation and the safety of response personnel on-site. 16 tons of transformer oil-contaminated soil was excavated from the pad area and adjoining ditch line and transported for proper waste disposal. A CCS combo truck was used to jet-clean oil in a culvert. The excavation included the temporary removal and replacement of the culvert. CCS collected soil samples and ran analytical tests to provide the customer with documentation of compliance with regulatory cleanup standards. After the contamination was removed, the impacted ditch, gravel roadway, and adjoining residential driveway were backfilled and reshaped to pre-contamination condition.
