CCS is currently performing a contaminated soil remediation project, restoring Jane Clark Park in Tacoma, Washington under the supervision of Washington State Department of Ecology. As part of an ongoing project, CCS is cleaning arsenic and lead from the park area which were carried by the wind from the former Asarco copper smelter and contaminated soils over a large area of Puget Sound. While contamination levels do not pose an immediate threat, CCS has been contracted to excavate, transport and dispose of contaminated soils from the top 12 inches from 2.2 acres of mostly lawn areas and replace the area with clean topsoil and reseeding the lawn. Portions of the soil removal call for the use of vacuum trucks to prevent damage to tree roots. Sections of the park are set to reopen in the fall of 2013 while others will reopen in the spring of 2014 once the grass is established.
